Support for victims of domestic violence
Domestic violence (DV) should not happen to anybody, ever. Here in Obihiro and Hokkaido there are various support services for victims of DV. If you or someone you know may be a victim of DV please consider contacting one of the agencies listed below to discuss ways to safely get help.
Escape from the violence
If you want to escape
*If you are a victim of violence and want to escape immediately, call 110 or run to your nearest police station.
*If you are injured, you need to go to a hospital for treatment, receive a medical certificate (shindan-sho) and submit a damage report (higai-todoke) to the police.
If you don’t want them to come near you
You can make it illegal for a perpetrator of violence to come near the victim by filing for a protection order (hogo-meirei) through your local court of law. This can also apply to former spouses. Making phone calls, sending emails, and coming near the victims relatives can also be prohibited by law.
